What is a Minecraft Dome?
A dome is a half-sphere structure commonly used for roofs, igloos, observatories, and architectural features. Unlike full spheres, domes only include the top half, making them perfect for covering circular buildings.
Dome Types Explained
Half Dome
Perfect hemisphere - height equals radius. Classic dome shape.
Shallow Dome
Lower profile - height is 1/3 of radius. Great for wide roofs.
Tall Dome
Higher profile - height is 2/3 of radius. Dramatic cathedral style.
How to Build a Dome in Minecraft
Step 1: Build the Base
Start with a circular base using our Circle Generator. This is your foundation.
Step 2: Generate Dome Layers
Use this tool to create each layer. Each layer is a smaller circle as you go up.
Step 3: Build Layer by Layer
Stack each circular layer on top of the previous one, following the pattern.
Step 4: Add the Top
The final layers will be very small circles, eventually ending in a single block at the peak.
Common Dome Builds
- 🏛️ Capitol Buildings: Use large domes (30+ blocks) for government or important structures
- ⛪ Churches & Cathedrals: Tall domes create impressive religious architecture
- 🏠 Igloos: Small to medium domes (10-15 blocks) for cozy ice homes
- 🔭 Observatories: Hollow domes with openings for telescopes
- 🏟️ Stadiums: Shallow domes cover large circular arenas

Current ToolFrequently Asked Questions
What size dome should I build?
For roofs, match your dome diameter to your building's width. A 20-block wide building needs a 20-block dome.
How many blocks do I need?
The tool calculates this for you. Hollow domes use significantly fewer blocks than solid ones.
Can I make an upside-down dome?
Yes! Build the same pattern but start from the top and work downward for underground structures.
